Generally. a surviving spouse is not liable for the unsecured credit card debt of a decedent spouse. but, the credit card company can make aclaim against the decdent's probate estate or even open an estate for the decedent, if the family does not. Credit card companies rarely ever do this. Also, some spouses do not relaize that they are an authorized user of their spouses credit card account. Unless you know that your husband never listed you as ause, you may be liable for the debt. Obvously, if you use the account, especially after the husband's death, you are liable for the entire debt.
