Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri
non-pmnt of bills for horses. owner not found
A friend asked to keep 3 horses on my property 3 months while she moved out of state. Verbally agreed to pay bills for horses. A witness but no written contract. Did sign lease for 1 horse for 5 months so they wouldn't have to pay bills on that horse for that time period. Lease ended 9 months ago. Owners have not taken horses, and sent 2 very small checks to cover a tiny part of their expenses. Owners can not be found. Last contact-2 mos. ago. The bill is over $1000 and growing. I need the money or the horses. How? I need a legal document for horse registry to ok.

You're going to have to see a lawyer. There are actions which can be taken to protect you, but only by a professional. Otherwise, you are liable to get in worse trouble.
If you can't afford a lawyer, go to Legal Aid. Most bar associations also have panels of lawyers willing to work for reduced fees.
As they say, no good deed goes unpunished.
Good luck.
