Postpone Summons to Court for collections

I have received a summons to court for a collections account. The summons is for a date in december. I want to postpone the date until after the first of the year. How can I do this.

Re: Postpone Summons to Court for collections

Your case will be set over if you file an Answer to the claim. It may also be set over if you appear and make a general denial of the claim against you. Depending upon when your case is set in December, it may or may not be set over to next year. If your court date is after December 10th, it is likely that it will be set over that to mid January. Since you appear to be unfamiliar with the process, you might do better to hire an attorney to appear or prepare your Answer for you.

Good Luck

If you hire an attorney to represent you, then the attorney can enter his or her appearance and obtain a continuance for you. It is probably a good idea to hire an attorney anyway. Many times an attorney can save you more money than the attorney's fees you will pay. Good luck!
