Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

I received a notice from an attorney demanding payment for a creditor. I responded asking for verification that the debt is mine. The attorney responded by sending me a printout with the amount owed and my name on it. No verification that the debt is mine. Do I have to pay even though they have not verified the debt as mine?

Many people misunderstand what verification means. Generally when a debtor asks an attonrey to vefify the debt. it means they have to ask the creditor, if this person still owes this amount. The type of verifciation you seem to be eluding to is the standard fo proof that the attorney woudl have to prove in court to get a judgment againstt you at trial. If the attrney sent you a printout, from the creditor, w/ your name and the amount, it seems they have met the burden of verifiying the debt.

Good luck
