Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri
Retaining your services to collect debt.
I can't afford to pay attorney's fees at this point. Is there any way you would accept a contingency fee? He owes over $5,000.00, which I know isn't much to you, but to me and my family it is alot. The interest alone is killing me, my credit is ruined, I feel so stupid and I heard through the grapevine, he will be moving to Connecticut soon. He is currently selling things off to other friends, but hasn't contacted me about what he owes me.

Re: Retaining your services to collect debt.
Many creditor's rights or collection attorneys work from a costs plus contingency fee basis. I am one of them. You pay for filing and service of process fees, and the attorney is paid from a portion of what they collect for you. Please keep in mind that the law only allows you acertain amount of time in which to bring your matter to court. An attorney, or any other debt collector, has to so certain other things before acase can be brought to court. Therefore, it may not be in your best interest to delay hiring someone to help you collect the debt.
