Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri
I signed a promissory note in North Carolina while in the military. I resided in Kansas at the time and now reside in Missouri. What state would have jurisdiction? The note was for a vehicle and drawn up in North Carolina. What are the statue of limitations of the state that would have jurisdiction?

There can be clauses in the loan documents that might change the jurisdiction. But, under the facts you described, Missouri is the most likely jurisdiction for a petition for nonpayment of the note. In that case, they would probalby have ten years from the date of the last payment to bring their case. If you have or think you are about to get sued, you should consult direclty with civil counsel in your area or where the suit was filed. Many attonreys offer a free or low cost initial consultation. Take all the relevant paperwork with you, and get advice specific to the facts of your case, before deciding how to act or respond.
