Someone gave you half advice. You need to REquest that the Plaintiff provide copie sof the pertinent docuemnts relating to this alleged debt. You may want to also send Interrogatories (questions) and Requests for Admissions. If you are unfamiliar with those terms, you may want to study at the law library, or hire counsel to prepare these Discovery requests for you.

Good luck

There is no such thing as a "letter of discovery". This is a good example of why laypersons should hire attorneys to practice law. You definitely should hire an attorney who knows how to handle these typoes of cases. A good attorney will save you much more money than he or she costs you. I have handled hundreds of these cases in the thirty-three years I have been practicing law and I may be able to offer my services to you. Please feel free to contact me for a free telephone consultation.
