If you fail to go to court a default judgment will be taken against you for the full amount. This will enable the plaintiff to garnish your wages in order to collect the judgment. Sometimes credit card companies try to collect stale debts. If they do this, and the other side doesn't show up to contest the matter, they win.

I would urge you to show up, dispute anything that can be disputed, and take your chances in court. If you truly have no assets, they can't get blood out of a turnip, and they have no means to try other than garnishment and seizure of personal property (cars, boats, guns, cameras, jewelry, etc.).
