Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

I was just summons to court for unpaid msd sewer bill. The problems was that i wasnt recieving any bills or notices that it wasnt getting paid or its getting sent to collection. then im hit with a 1800 suit from a collection agency. what should i do.

It is not rare for utilities to suddenly send abill out for collection. They sometimes act differently than Pay attention to any dates on the Summons. You may need to file and answer or appear at an Answer docket. Take what you were served, and go see a civil practice attorney in your area. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. Get advice specific to the fqcts of your matter. You may opt to hire the attorney to represent you in the case. You might just have them help you prepare your Pro Se Answer. You might de ide to just get some free advice. If your fail to heed the deadlines, you might get a judgment against you by defualt.
