Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

An out of town laywer calls me about a debt and threatens to file the law suit unless I make arrangements to pay. He demands I give him my bank information to make monthly payments. I feel I will not give him that information over the phone because I do not know for sure who he really is. Am I correct ?

Also his secretary threatened to send my information by fax to my work. It is a fax used by several people in my office. Would that be legal?

You have responded correctly. If they continue their efforts, obtain a mailing address and then send them a letter demanding that they cease all contact with you, that this is a disputed debt, and that you want a copy of your letter sent by them to any credit bureau that has been advised of this alleged debt. Then, add that you will hire an attorney to pursue relief under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act unless they immediately comply with your demands. This should stop them, and if it doesn't hire an attorney.
