Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
My $600 laptop was purposely broken. The screen was smashed so that nothing can appear on the screen but a white and black light showing the multiple cracks. My boyfriend wants me to press charges for destruction of property. Could anything come from following that path? I did not know if the value of the computer mattered,or if I could even press charges.

Hopefully, yuo reproted this vandalism to the police. If th ePRosecutor chopsed to go after the defendant, you shdu participate and ask the judge to make restitution part of any plea agreement that is presented to him. If not, then you will need to sue the person that broke you laptop. Teh amoutn you cna get may be the cost to repair it or the fair market value of th elap top, whichever is lower.
Good luck
