Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

My 17 year old daughter and 15 year old cousin were arrested, searched and charged with shoplifting. My daughter's search revealed her personal effects and her own earrings (which weren't returned). During my cousin's search dozens of earrings were found in her bra. Foolishly in order to protect her cousin my daughter scooted some earrings that fell from her. She said they watched the store's video of what happened and weren't allowed to see the rest of the video. My daughter has NEVER been in any trouble, she's just graduated high school and is devastated by this chain of events. What should I do next?

You did not indicate whether she was charged with a felony. If she was charged with anything, you should get legal counsel for her fast. If you choose not to hire your own attorney, at least have her ask the court to appoint one for her. This type of matter could stick with her after she reaches the age of majority, if she acts foolishly.

Good luck
