The police can hold you for 24 hours without you being charged, and then you must be released. If you have been charged wtih a crime and you are not able to make bail, then you will stay in custody until there is a plea or a trial. Of course, an attorney may be able to help you with a bail problem. It sounds to me like you (or someone you know)needs to hire an attorney. I have handled hurndreds of criminal cases in the thirty-three years I have been practicing law, and I would be happy to speak with you. Please feel free to contact me at my office.
