Can an attorney represent two defendants at the same time for the same criminal charge ?

Sometimes an attorney can represtn two defendants in a single criminal trial. If the two have equal standing and their interests are the same. The most common is where a husband and wife are accused of committing a crime together. However, the attorne owes afull duty to each cleint. Sometimes it is in one cleint's best interest not to be represented by the same counsel as a codefendnat.
