Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
Burglary/Breaking and Entering
Myself and 3 other friends decided to go into our high school one night only for the sole purpose to walk around and reminisce we ended up taking things of no importance such as foam hands that you can get at a baseball game or something and room plackards that said like room 207 or room 210.I was not the one that broke the window but i did go in.We were taken to jail then taken downtown where we were finger printed and placed in holding for about 6 or 7 hours. They told us they could keep us for 24 hours but we were let go without having to stay the full time and we didnt have to pay bail we have a court date later this month. My question is being this is the first time ive ever had any of this type of trouble at all ive only ever had one speeding ticket but being as this is the first time ive done something like this and its definitely my last at court do you think i will be sentenced to jail or what is the most realistic charge and sentencing i will face?

I agree. You need to at the least have an attorney discuss the charges with you. There is no way an attorney on this listserve can give you menaingful advice without knowing what you were charged with, wha the other two were charged with, and in what jurisdiction it occurred. It appears from the facts you describe, they could charge you with a felony. This is very serious. Perhaps an attorney could work a deal with the prosecutor, so that you are not barred from certain jobs in the future.

I believe that this is definitely an instance wherre you need to hire an attorney. I do not know what you are charged with, or what court you have to appear in, but I do know that the results you obtain in court will have an effect upon you for the rest of your life. Please take my advice and hire an attorney to represent you. It is possible that an attorney will be able to negotiate a plea bargain which will keep you from having a conviction on your record. Good luck.
