Throughout the course of a criminal trial, is the prosecutor limited to the use of direct evidence?

If by "direct evidence" you mean "not circumstantial evidence", then the answer to your question is "No." On the other hand, if you mean, "Is the prosecutor limited to asking only direct (non-leading) questions?", then the answer to your question is again, "No."
