Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
I have a friend who was accused of shoplifting. She left the store, the sales person got her license # and now police are contacting her. Can she be charged with shop lifting if they did not arrest her with any stolen items on her person?

Yes. In many of these cases the store has a video camera tape showing the theft. Please advise your friend not to make any statements or answer any questions for the police. She can tell them that she declines to answer any questions or make any statements or sign anything upon advice of legal counsel. Hopefully, she will hire an attorney immediately and the attorney can take it from there. I have handled hundreds of these cases, and your friend can call me for a telephone consultation.
