Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
I have a friend who was caught stealing $140.00 from the cash register at his then place of employment. He was arrested and charged with stealing in Cass County Missouri and has a pending court date. We are curious as to what could potentially happen at said court date. This is his first offense and he is currently out on bail, if it is necessary that he asks for a continuance to hire an attorney etc will he have to post bail again?

If it is your friends first court appearance, he will be arraigned - that is, he will either be read the charges against him, or be given a copy of them. He will not be held as long as he has no outstanding warrants. If he asks for a continuance to hire an attorney, and he has no outstanding warrants, and has made all his court appearances, he will not have to post bail again, and the judge should grant him a continuance.
Feel free to contact me if I can be of additional assistance.
