Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

International Travel on Probation

About 8 months ago I received 5

years felony SIS probation for

leaving the scene of an accident. I

am on supervised probation and

have recently been put on minimum

supervision. I have completed all

special conditions. Is it possible for

me to take a cruise or a vacation

outside of the U.S.?

Also, after a period of not having

any violations would it be possible

to move to unsupervised probation

or get early release of probation?

Would unsupervised help with

travel?

Thanks

Re: International Travel on Probation

You will need the permission of the probation officer or a court order before you do any travelling. I have handled obtaining a court order under these circumstances occasionally. The probation officer will determine whether you qualify for unsupervised probation at some point, but you would still need to go through the above process before travelling. Finally, yes, you can Petition the Court to let you off of probation early. It helps if the probation officer is on board with this. I have also succeeded in doing this on many occassions. Talk to your probation officer. Good luck.
