There are situations where having "hidden" video cameras could result in criminal conviction, such as in a bathroom or other area where people would be canging their clothes, or minors could be viewed in comprimising situations. But, there is no absolute bar to having a camera on the exterior of a house. There are problems if it is pointed toward the window of another home.
Good luck
