limitations on hospital debt

what are the limitations on a hospital collecting a debt if it is from 1999 can they take you to court in 2005 to collect when it has been on a credit report since 1999

Oral only agreements must be brought to Court within five years. if there is a "writing" "signed" by the debtor, the creditor may have up to ten years to file suit.

Most Hospitals have multiple forms that a patient or person responsible for the paitient sign before treatment occurs. But, there may be other writings that a debtor signs that sufficiently describes the debt, such that it is likely that the hospital may not be limited to the five year rule. But, have an attorney examine your specific situation.

if the debt was created by some written document the rule is 10 years. if not, then 5.
