lost property

a person said he lost his shorts at the lake, two other people say they were in our boat. i found aset of keys, two shirts and sandles in our boat. I neverfound any shorts. They are threatning to get the sherrifs dept. involved. what are my rights and is there anything they can do?

Ask if the itms you found in your boat are theirs'. Ask the people who say they saw the shorts in your boat, what they did with them. If the found itmes are theirs', give them to the person who says they lost them. If they call the cops, tell the cops the truth. If the person who lost teh shorts is an adult, you are not responsible for keeping track of their clothes, unless you agreed to be.
