Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
Misdemeanor charges, Missouri
I am facing two misdemeanor charges in a municipal court in Missouri. These charges carry possible jail time. My only income is from Social Security disability, so I cannot afford an attorney. What is the income limit one must meet to qualify for representation by a public defender in suchc a instance?

Re: Misdemeanor charges, Missouri
You can not be charged with misdemeanors in Municipal court. You can be charged with violating municipal ordinances. If you are charged with misdemeanors, you are in state court, and the Judge can give you an application to fill out for the appointment of the public defender. Most municipal courts do not appoint the public defender for defendants.
