Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
misdemeanor stealing
I have no criminal history,no arrests etc. I went to court yesterday for misdemeanor stealing less than $500. The judge just asked me if I could afford an attorney and then gave me a sheet with a court date of July 7 for a notice of counsel hearing and a court date of July 29 for a court trial. Does this mean I have to get a lawyer and have to go to trial? Can I call the prosecutor and work a plea for a SIS? Should I definitely get a lawyer? thanks

Re: misdemeanor stealing
I would definitely advise you to hire an attorney. If you are in one of the counties I practice in I might be able to help you out for a very modest fee. Please feel free to give me a call.
