Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
Paid Bad Check (Failure to Appear)
I have 2 days until my court date and i am not having any luck finding a attorney or answers. I had a warrant for my arrest and i posted bail money. It was a warrant for failure to appear for passing a bad check. I am paying restitution out of court and they say the charges will be dropped. Will my court date be cancelled? I am 5 hours from the court house i need to go to so it is hard for me to get there on time and take time away from work. I have heard of having a attorney appear for the defendant but i dont know how that works either. I dont know how much money i need to come up with to pay a attorney to support my case either. If i knew i wouldnt get jail time it would be easier because i could plead guilty pay fines and go on but i dont want to risk having jail time that i cant afford to do with my job. I need help or answers fast.

Re: Paid Bad Check (Failure to Appear)
It seems to me that you have had some time to hire an attorney, but have failed to do so until two days before a court date. This will make it even more difficult for you to hire an attorney now. Also, due to the nature of the pending charges, I would personally require a cash payment of any retainer fee, as would most attorneys. Depending upon all of the facts involved, I may be able to help you or refer you to someone who can. You really do need to hire an attorney. Pleae feel free to call me at the office. If I am not in when you call, I will return your call as quickly as possible.
