Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
petit theft
dear sir,
i was cited for petit theft ''shoplifting'' a 12 pack of beer, value $9.59. what am i looking at here? i am guilty. i am a over the road truck driver, currently unemployed and a misdemeanor conviction will severly hurt my chances of getting a job with a reputable trucking company. i have no criminal record, and i cannot afford an attorney.my court date is in a month.
thank you

Re: petit theft
If you have no avenue to get an attorney, talk to the prosecutor. You may be able to work out a reduced charge plea agreement. If the amount is as small as you say it is, the complainant (store that the beer came from) might not bother coming to court, in which case you may be able to get it dismissed eventually.
Good Luck,
Tony
