on a child sex offence should i agree to take a polygraph without an attorney or wait for the charges to be pressed or the case to be dropped

Do not take a polygraph! This can only work against you no matter what the detectives tell you! If there is sufficient evidence, the charges will be filed. If there is not sufficient evidence, the charges may still be filed. In any event, I would advise you to get an attorney on the case before you are sitting in custody trying to post bail.
