Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

I recently stole 480$ worth of stuff from dillards. I had also had some other stole property from another day in my car when they took me into jail they counted it as 580$ until they questioned me. The officer helped me out and said take the misdemeanor charge for stealing and possession of stolen goods so a felony will not be on record. This is my first offense ever and go to college what do you think will happen?

With all respect to the arresting officer, he is not necessarily your friend, and he is not a lawyer. The decision to charge as a felony or misdemeanor is for the district attorney, not the police. Plead not guilty, then contact an attorney. Theft charges, even misdemeanor ones, can be a serious impediment to future employment. Feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance.

Why would anyone even consider taking the advice of a law enforcement officer that is arresting that person and collecting the evidence the prosecutor will use to convict that person and the judge will use to sentence that person? I'm sorry, are you kidding me? You need to hire the very best criminal defense attorney you can afford in the jurisdiction in which you are being charged, and then you need to follow your attorney's advice.
