Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

I recently got summoned to court for "stealing". I had to buy a report from the court to find out what it was about. The report claims I stole from a gas station. It claims I asked for two packs of swisher sweets and when they were handed to me I ran out without paying. It says I ran to my car and left quickly. First of all I do not have a car. I always walk to this gas station because it is very close to my home. Second, I have never "ran out" of anywhere. There has never been a time where anyone has tried to stop me from leaving or holler at me to tell me I had forgotten to pay. I do buy swishers from this gas station frequently and have even been there many times since the claimed incident date. Nobody has ever said anything about it to me. They cost a total of $3.00. I would never even think of risking stealing something like this. This is ridiculous. I have already paid a $5.00 fee just to get the report to know why I am even going to court. I have to pay an additional $35.00 for court fees. I am currently on probation and stealing would violate it. Why on Earth would I ask to buy a product, give them my ID so that they know my name and who I am, and then steal the product RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM? And then COME BACK later multiple and buy things from them with the SAME ID? I am offended to even be accused of such a stupid crime. This is just so ridiculous I cannot believe this is really happening. What do I do? How do I prove that I paid for them? Is there any way I can get access to the security tape footage? Why would they file this claim against me? Please help. Thank you.

Unfortunately you need to hire an attorney. We can obtain the video if one exists. As unfair as this charge is, you do not want to represent yourself. Call me for a free consultation.
