Plead not guilty, then contact a good attorney. An attorney might, repeat might, be able to negotiate an understanding between the District Attorney and the Army that would enable him to enlist while still being responsible for his actions. I have on occassion been able to broker such arrangements. Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss this further.

I just want to warn you about the attorney who posted a reply just before I am posting this. He has continued to advise people with criminal prosecution questions using the phrase "District Attorney" despite the fact that we do not have "District Attorneys" in Missouri. Obviously, he means the Prosecuting Attorney, and perhaps his misuse of the language is no reason to disregard his response. But, I still believe that the attorney should be using the correct language, not only about the name of the people in the legal justice system but about everything else as well. Your son should hire the very best criminal defense attorney he can afford and as soon as possible. In our area Felony cases can take several months and the armed services are not likely to take him with a felony pending. If you are in the Eastern part of the state, please feel free to contact me for a free telephone consultaion. I have handled hundreds of felony cases over the thirty-one years I have been practicing law. If I can not help your son myself, I should be able to refer him to someone who can!
