Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

Out of state civil contempt

My girlfriend has been issued an order for incarceration in Georgia, resultant of a civil contempt charge for unpaid child support. She is indigent, and unable to travel to GA. How does she find pro bono or cheap representation in Georgia while residing in Missouri?

Is this considered a civil or criminal matter?

If criminal, could she have access to a Georgia public defender while residing in Missouri?

Re: Out of state civil contempt

If this was in Missouri it would be considered civil and no public defender would be provided. An attorney licensed in Georgia would be able to answer the question based upon Georgia law. I would suggest that you contact the state Bar Association in Georgia, or perhaps the local bar ssociation in the county where this is pending. They should be able to help her find either a pro bono lawyer or an inexpensive one. Good luck.
