Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri
I stole a 30-dollar shirt from Sears.... I had never done it before, and until this point, I had never done anything wrong. I'm 17 years old and still in high school. I am supposed to go to court on the 17th of November. They told me I'd just have to pay a fine, this is true, right?

Do not do it! If you go to court on yoru own and plead guilty in order to pay a fine, you will wind up with a conviction on your record. In the future, whenever you need to apply for school, a loan, the military, a job, or a thousand other things, there will be a question on the application asking you if you have ever been convicted. If you lie on the application, the other person can run your record and then deny your applecation because youlied. OR, hey can deny your application because of the conviction. Either way, you stand to lose out in a multitude of ways. By hiring an attorney to defend you, you can in most situations avoid the conviction. this is very, very improtant. Hire an attorney.
