Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

Victim of a fight

my son who is 21 went to a local bar after hours with his friend to visit a friends sister who worked there. they were outside talking to her and the owner of the bar came out and started beating up my sons friend. then the other bar owner came out and hit my son over the back of the head and knocked my son on the ground, then the bar owner continued to beat my son in the face and punched him in the throat. My son didn't fight back at all, the bar owners were drunk. Someone told the bar owner this was a misunderstanding and the kid he was beating on was B's kid brother. My son and his friend were trying to leave, and the bar owner came over and said ''sorry man, I didn't know that it was you I was beating on.'' My son drove to the police station to press charges. My son had to have his chin glued together. We were told that night from the police that we would have to hound the prosecutor to do anything because she is friends with the bar owners, and any prior charges have always been dropped. Well they were right, the Prosc. is not going to do anything. My son now has medical bills and a ugly scar on his chin. I have much more information about things these bar owners have got by with that are documented. what should we do? Thanks

Re: Victim of a fight

the justice your son seeks will likely be found in civil court. the prosecutor only deals with the criminal court. You sould keep very good track of your son's medical bills and his records. Keep anotebook of how this injury has changed his life and anyway that it still is.

As for the prosecutor, you will likely need to have an out-of-town attoreny to push the prosecutor through the media. If you or your son wish to speak to an attorney further, he may email me directly.

Good luck
