Legal Question in DUI Law in Missouri

I got a DWI in 08 that I'm still taking care of. I was pulled over and have since then gone to court. The first court date was pushed back so i could get something taken care of. ie: satop, reinstatement fee etc.

When i returned to court, where there was a different judge, I was unable to speak to a p.a. but the judge told me i needed to get some leagal advice. I have finished what i need to do to comply with state law, but I can't afford SR-22 insurance yet. I am currently not driving anymore.

So the question is what can I do? Is there any way, without getting a lwyer, that I can do?

As you coudl theoreticqally face significant jail time, teh judge was correct to advise you to seek legal counsel. It sounds like you ahve doen pretty well oin your own. If you cannot affird an attorney to represent you, you might hire one to go over your case with you to explain yoru options. Then you can tell the court that you did consult with legal counsel to get advice specific to your case. If the judge does nto accept that, or you wake up qand see theneed for counsel, but cannot affird it, you can ask the judge for a public defender. Yroeu inability procure SR-22 insurance confimration, it may harm your ability to plea the case down. You may end up dong some weekend time based upon a conviction of the crime as alleged.

Good luck

Despite yourfinancial situation, you absolutelydo need an attorney to represent you in this case.

If the Court case you are referring to is the criminal case in which you are charged with DWI, then you must do everything you can do to avoid a conviction. Not only would you face jail time and/or a substantial fine, but the conviction would result in the Department of Revenue giving you 12 points on your driving record which would result in a one year revocation of your driver's license. In addition, a conviction will have catrostrophic consequences if you ever pick up another such charge. The requirements that you refer to in your question do not all relate to a criminal DWI charge, and it appears that you may be confused as to the different requirements of the Department of Revenue. I would advise you to do whatever you can to hire an attorney.
