If a person gets a DUI months before a new state law goes into effect but does not go to court until months after will the new law apply to them?

Generally new laws will not affect a prior DUI. But, if the defendnat pleads to a differnce offense,l the new law may affect that other plea, in some cases. But, generally, such law changes are not retroactive as to offenses alleged to have occurred prior to the date the law was changed.
