When arrested is it your right to make a phone call or can you be denied that phone call and for how long?

Actually I believe that the right you are referring to is your constitutional right to counsel which as a practical matter usually means that you have the right upon request to have a reasonable opportunity to contact an attorney for legal advice. Sometimes, when a suspect under arrest has been denied a reasonable opportunity to contact an attorney after requesting to do so the defense attorney may be able to use this fact to the advantage of the defendant in later legal proceedings.
