Legal Question in Education Law in Missouri
My 2nd grad daughter has been put into an extra reading program at school and is removed from class daily to attend. I have questioned why she was put in this class with out my knowledge until she had been in the class 3 weeks. I have looked at her reading scores and she is scoring well above the "minimum" requirements for her grade. When I asked if I could opt her out of this program I was told by the principal that I do not have that right due to No Child Left Behind. What are my options? I would prefer that my child not be pulled from regular learning activities for a reading program she does not need.

You always have the option of sending her to private school, or addressing your concerns with the district administration. You and her parents can also work with her outside of school to raise her reading level.
Many of the mandates of leave no child behind may be ending soon. So, the need for her extra instruction may end without you doing anything.
Good luck
