Legal Question in Education Law in Missouri
teaching contract
I am a certified teacher in MO. I signed a teaching contract back on March 10 to teach in a nearby public school district (also in MO). It was approved by that board of education on April 10. Now I am having second thoughts about working in that district. What will happen to me (fines, forced to work, revoked certification) if I call them up and break the contract?

Re: teaching contract
The outcome of your dispute may well be dictated by the terms of your contract. If you have a copy, briefly review the terms. If the contract contains good legal writing, you may be able to answer the questions you have posed yourself. If not, negotiation with your administration may offer some relief. As a last resort, you may have to obtain an attorney to try to find a loophole in your contract through which you could escape. Depending on the contract language, you may have multiple avenues to pursue in seeking relief. Good luck.
