Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Missouri

Recording Studio Responsibility

I have a small project recording studio (that has been for my personal use so far) and am thinking about opening it to clients. My questions are: If I record an artist performing someone else's music or record them singing along with a karaoke song, am I, as the studio owner violating copyright of that song? What if I have a contract, signed by the client, that I am not responsible for the client's use of a copyrighted song, am I protected?

Re: Recording Studio Responsibility

In some cases, you would be in violation. The variable are too many to fully explain in this forum. You shoudl hire an attorney to help you with your business plans. At the very least, your agreement with each "artist" should be that they will hold you harmless for any claims that are brought due to the music they perform in or record through your studio.
