Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri
Abandonment
I know someone who hasn't seen or heard from the man she married for almost 10 years. The marriage took place in KCMO, they seperated in 1994, and he's been out of touch with her and the children since 1997. He never gave her anything for child support. She wants to remarry and has been told that, since he's been out of touch for so long, she may be ''divorced by abandonment''. Is this true? If not, what can they do to protect her from bigamy charges in the future?

Re: Abandonment
There is no "divorce by abandonment". the person who wants to remarry need to get a divorce first.
