Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri
abandonment & rights
I have been paying child support for well over 8 years, and the mother of my child moves constantly, not keeping me informed as to her whereabouts, has an unlisted telephone number and continues to avoid me seeing my child. I have never been late on any payments, keep health insurance on my child for the last 8 years, and she even refuses to use health insurance to make sure that I have no information on my child or their whereabouts. We are going back to court and she has an attorney and I am fighting pro se. I cannot understand how she is allowed to continue to keep doing this, as we have been in Court before for the same reason. Her answer to the pleading filed was abandonment, but has broken every rule in the parenting plan, but has been paid timely for child support, but does not allow me to see my child.

Re: abandonment & rights
You need to hire an attorney. It seems to me that if your relationship with your child, and the well being of your child is important to you at all then you would want to have an attorney instead of "fighting pro se". A "fight" between a person represented by an attorney and a person not represented by an attorney is not a fair fight. It is very likely that remaining pro se will result in you getting less than adequate results in court, and then being further frustrated by our legal system and your child's mother's ability to manipulate the system. Do you have the right to represent yourself in court? Of course. Is it the smart thing to do? Of course not.
