Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri
Accused of Neglect
I am a single mom of one boy 11yrs old. I lost my job and have no insurance or income. We live with my boyfriend and he supports us except for 300/mo in child support. On 9/16 my son fell off a scooter and hurt his right hand. (3 nuckles broken as it turned out) Nothing like this has ever happened before and I was very concerned about the cost to take him to dr or er so I waited to see if hopefully it was just a bad sprain. On 9/21 he went to the school nurse and she left me a phone message that his hand looked pretty bad and she thought it needed to be looked at and to call her if I had any questions. I did not call and I planned to take him to dr on 9/23 when my boyfriend got paid. But, on 9/23 he went to the school nurse again and they decided to call the police and cps. I just received the report from them saying that they have a preponderence of evidence to find my son was the victim of neglect based on school reports, dr records, and they say that I was not consistent with my reasons for the delay and what my son was saying. How can they do this when no one from the school ever talked to me! They say that I only took him to dr when they made me. What happens now? What can I do? What does all this mean? Please help.

Re: Accused of Neglect
If the state starts a criminal case against you. you can have counsel appointed for you, if you cannot afford to hire one. Without more information, it is impossible to tell you what is exactly going on.
Good Luck
