Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Asked prior question about civil contempt motion on child support...the question is really, is there a possibility of jail for the civil contempt. There was no real hearing for the show cause order, because service was not made on me until after that court date and nothing really ever explained as to what could or could not happen for the civil contempt

There is a possibility of jail time for a parent that is in arears on child support. The cannces go way up , if hte child ends up on state aid. The jail time can sometimes excee one year, so there may be an obligation for the court to supply a defense attorney for the respondent parent. If the judge states atht jail tiem will not be more than a year (often just weekends in jail for a wokring parent) than the obligation to supply counsel may be extinguished.

Good luck
