Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Back Child Support

I found out several days ago that I have a warrant out for my arrest due to back child support. I cannot afford to hire an attorney to represent me. What do I need to do at this point to keep me from going to jail?

Re: Back Child Support

If you pay your back support obligation it would negate the purpose for the warrant.

Good Luck

If there is an outstanding warrant, then the odds are that you will be going to jail at least until you can make bond. An attorney may be able to set things up so that you could do a voluntary surrender and get out of custody the same day that you turn yourself in. If you absolutely can not afford a private attorney, then you can apply for a public defender. You will be given this opportunity

at your first court appearnce on a confined docket after you are taken into custody. If I were you, I would borrow the money to hire a private attorney.

Good luck.
