Re: care of a person

First of all, nothing is as simple as having the person "sign a piece of paper" If the person is physically unable to manage his affairs then he could use a Power of Attorney to name someone else to take care of his business for him. He could also revoke the Power of Attorney at any time. Any Power of Attorney should be drafted by an attorney. If the person is mentally unable to manage his affairs, then his signature on a Power of Attorney would be ineffective. In that case, it may be necessary to file a lawsuit seeking the apppointment of a guardian, and possibly a conservator, for the disabled person. Please be sure to consult with an attorney. If you do not already have an attorney, you may call me for a consultation.
