Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

I would like to change my middle name from Nadine to Nicole. Since I am not changing my middle initial, is it necessary for me to legally change my name? Or can I just adopt the new name and continue going by the name "Jane N. Doe"?

You can use the alias that you described. However, you may still have problems with any official documents or records that are tied to your true name. They may not be compatible with other records using your alias. An example of this is Social Security records of payment and elgibility for payments. There are others. If it is the expense of having your name changed in court that drives your decision, only you can make the economic determination if it is worth the risk to just use the alias.

Good luck
