name changing

okay. someone i know wants to get there name changed to something they were not born under. she was married then divorced, and now years later, she wants to change her name to her step-brothers last name. and shes not biologically his sister only half blood. because they have the ''same'' dad, but different mothers. but she was adopted after she was born. i want to know if that type of name change is actually legal!!!!!??????

Re: name changing

She can change her name; however, in order to do so she will need to contact an attorney in her area that can file the appropriate papers in the county of her residence. Assuming the change of name is not intended to avoid debts or creditors it is fairly straightforward and shouldn't cost her too much in legal fees.
