Re: Changing the spelling of your name

There is no law of which I am aware that prohibits you from spelling your name any way you wish so long as you are not attempting to defraud anyone. If you want to change your name legally, then you must follow the statutory requirements. This involves filing a Petition in Court, publishing Notice several times, and obtaining a Court Order approving the name change. I have done this for many people over the twenty four years I have practiced law. The cost would include an attorney's fee ranging from $250 upwards together with the filing fee, the publication fees and a fee for the Bureau of Vital Statistics to actually record the name change. I believe your total cost should be less than $500.00. If you would like a free telephone consultation, you may call me at 314-727-2822.
