Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Child Abandonment

14 yr old daughter is bipolar, severe depression, etc. Only way to get longterm residential treatment is by giving custody of child to DFS. Must I plead guilty to child abandonment in court as DSF has suggested to get her this help she needs?

Re: Child Abandonment

No, I would not advise you to admit child abandonment and turn custody of yoru child over to the DFS. Perhaps you could consult with the deputy juvenile officer in the family court (used to be called juvenile court) in the county where you live. Perhaps there are sufficient grouns for the juvenile court to take jurisdiction and place the child in an appropriate setting until she is able to return to your home. Good luck.
