Yes, in Missouri there is a special Power of Attorney under which a parent can authorize another person to care for a child for up to one year. If the situation has not changed within that time the parent could sign a new Power of Attorney. In certain cases it might be preferable to open a guardianship through the courts. You should consult with an attorney. Good luck.
